Georges Bizet died 150 years ago. Let's pay tribute to him at this 2nd festival dedicated to him at the Villa Viardot!

We know Bizet thanks to the worldwide success of his opera Carmen. But this young man left other, partly unpublished works that the musicologist Hervé Lacombe has brought to light, and which leading artists will bring back to life in Bougival for this 2nd Festival at the Villa Viardot.
His first comic opera, ‘La Maison du docteur’, at the age of 17, revealed a theatrical sense, full of joy and humour. The 63 melodies range in age from 11 to 36, from romance and refined melody to popular arias and more lyrical ones, always with an accurate expression of feeling. The counterpoint exercises linked the 17-year-old Bizet to the classical traditions inherited from Cherubini and, like rhetorical rules, guided him towards purity of discourse. Finally, the virtuosity of the composer-pianist who was acclaimed by Liszt at the age of 23, at the home of his master Halévy, bears witness to a protean talent that the precocity of his death did not allow him to develop...
