This column was erected in 1818 by the writer and politician Boissy d’Anglas, in honour of his friends, the Montgolfier brothers.
This column was located in the park of the magnificent property called “Le Val d’Anglas”, . This estate belonged to the former Deputy of Annonay during the Revolution. After that he became Count of the Empire before being named Peer of France by Louis XVIII and joining the French Academy. The house was demolished and the column is on the grounds of the private residence Mongolfier.
