Chapelle Royale – The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci

Share on:

At the head of one of the greatest musical courts in Europe, they patronised the arts as a whole and brought in the most important artistic figures of their time from far and wide.

This is how Leonardo da Vinci created his legendary fresco, L'Ultima Cena, in the future mausoleum of the Dukes of Milan.

Through the music of Milan at the end of the 15th century, this concert is a sonic evocation of this pictorial masterpiece. The laments of the Holy Week liturgy echo the Missa Galeazescha dedicated to the Sforzas. The sacred concert is preceded by a moment of secular music, where songs and musical interludes suggest the soundscape of a princely banquet. Finally, the Milan Laudaire closes the show with a scene in the vernacular describing Christ's last moments.
