Among the architectural treasures in the city of Poissy, the Maison de Fer, wich means Iron House is one of the most unique elements. This iconic building is from the late 19th century and gets its name from the materials used in its construction.

Its structure, as well as its walls and roof, are entirely made of metal. The uniqueness of this former holiday home lies in the technique used for its construction: a system of construction using stamped metal sheets, patented by the Belgian engineer Joseph Danly. The Iron House is one of the few remaining testimonies of a flourishing industrial era at the turn of the 20th century when metal constructions were synonymous with innovation, modernity, and comfort, leading to its classification as a Historical Monument in 1975.

The construction of house was decided by Georges de Coninck and his wife Isabelle Winslow, the first owners and sponsors of the building in 1896, on a plot they owned. It was a holiday residence that was not occupied year-round.

Its proximity to the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the surrounding countryside made it a quiet and relaxing place, while still being close to the city center of Poissy and its amenities.
