The first site devoted to contemporary art in the Chevreuse Valley! The Musée Grataloup has opened its doors in Chevreuse, in the chapel of the Prieuré Saint-Saturnin, to the delight of contemporary art lovers and the curious.
‘I will continue to paint until my last breath’. Passionate, sensitive and committed, Guy-Rachel Grataloup (1935-2022) is a contemporary painter and visual artist.
After studying Beaux-Arts in Paris, he won the Institut de France prize for the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, then the second Grand Prix for painting at the Prix de Rome. As soon as he won these prizes, he created large chromatic volumes, expressing expressionism through volume, matter and colour. From there, he signed numerous works and exhibited all over the world. Guy-Rachel Grataloup moved to Chevreuse in the Yvelines in 1988. From then on, he devoted his life to creating works that drew inspiration from "anti-matter". His aim is to promote contemporary art in the Vallée de Chevreuse.
‘What I hope for is to work all my life for others’.
With the creation in 2022 of the first museum of contemporary art in the Vallée de Chevreuse, where works by the artist will be exhibited each year on a specific theme, a tribute has been paid to him. Just as he left his mark with the Tour Galilée in La Défense, he is leaving his works to the younger generations, to art lovers and enthusiasts. The museum also welcomes young artists of the Grataloup generation with one or two exhibitions of their work. The museum offers a wide range of cultural events, including lectures, literary meetings, workshops and small musical groups, all of which cater for a broad public.
