Dynamic Yvelines
The Yvelines and golf
The No. 1 golfing destination in the Paris Region, the Yvelines is home to almost 30 golf courses and has many undulating courses to discover and share your passion for golf. It's not for nothing that the golf events will be held at one of Europe's most prestigious golfing venues, the Golf National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Spotlight on the region favoured by golf lovers.
Yvelines, the perfect address for golfers
To each his own paradise. For many golfers, paradise is located in the Yvelines. Undulating landscapes, an omnipresent natural environment, all the ingredients for a pleasurable experience.
With 27 golf courses spread across the Département, a record in France, golf enthusiasts have a unique opportunity to play, whether they are great players or humble beginners.
At Rochefort-en-Yvelines, where some even dare to draw comparisons with Scotland’s most prestigious courses, at Jouy-en-Josas on the Château des Côtes estate, at La-Queue-les-Yvelines where the Golf des Yvelines offers two courses set on the edge of the Rambouillet forest and a clubhouse located in the 17th-century Château de la Couharde, and at a host of other Yvelines sites, pleasure is a promise.
Golf de la Vaucouleurs, a model of eco-friendliness
The fifth most popular sport in terms of card-holders (402,000 in 2020), golf is booming. Growth that is also sustainable. With its two 18-hole courses, the Vaucouleurs golf course (named after a small tributary of the Seine), laid out over 120 hectares at Civry-la-Forêt in the west of the Yvelines Département, is a model of eco-friendliness.
Awarded the “Ecocert” label for its exemplary qualities, it is the first in Europe (and second in the world after Singapore) to have signed the United Nations “Sports for Climate Action” charter. A key commitment to preserving the environment with, among the many actions already undertaken, the reduction of its carbon footprint, an eco-pasture system with sheep and ponies, the absence of phytosanitary products, courses designed with a landscaping approach rethought with the environment in mind, wooden tees instead of plastic ones, etc.
The Golf de la Vaucouleurs also works with the Gwennaruz Foundation to offer lessons to underprivileged young people in the Yvelines. Because golf is open to all, some of us may become great champions. After all, the history of sport is full of wonderful tales.
Le Golf National, the home of champions
Le Golf National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is used to welcoming champions. Since 1991, it has hosted the Open de France, the oldest (1906) and most prestigious continental European tournament.
Better still, in September 2018, the world’s greatest golfers came to compete on the “Albatros”, one of the three courses on Le Golf National, for the 42nd edition of the Ryder Cup, a biennial Europe-United States confrontation that has been thrilling enthusiasts since 1927. A week of festivities around a course completely refurbished to merit the global event that is the Ryder Cup, and over 300,000 spectators who came to enjoy the swing of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy.
The stars of the sport will be back in 2024 to compete for the Olympic title. And treat themselves to a taste of paradise.
